Project Night Light began informally at the end of summer in 2018 while I was working at a bar in Seattle. A friend and coworker overdosed and died. I was volunteering at a needle exchange at the time so I started distributing Narcan to different bars around the Capitol Hill neighborhood as well as to individuals who requested wanting to carry it. Several years later, another friend who worked in a bar in Seattle, overdosed and died. Again, I passed out more Narcan as well as Fentanyl test strips as a way to try to prevent this from happening again. In 2022, I formalized these actions to include training and education. My intent is to provide bar, music venue, and club staff and security free supplies and training to feel comfortable utilizing Narcan and Fentanyl test strips. I have also provided these services and supplies at local markets, DJ nights, and other events.

I currently work for Seattle & King County Public Health as an Education Specialist for the Downtown Needle Exchange.

It is not enough to just have the supplies; it’s important to know how to use them, why to use them, and to practice using them so that when/if the time comes, you’re ready. Harm reduction is an act of love <3
